Holiday Work Life Balance
Tips For Small Business

This is a time of year to enjoy the spirit of the season, yet holiday shopping, the pressure of the crowds, unfinished to do lists at work can be overwhelming causing anxiety levels to rise.  We do not have to give into this stress as there are strategies we can put in place that allows us to accomplish everything and enjoy the holiday season.

Think Teamwork — Most people at this time of year are in the holiday spirit and are usually ready to pick up some slack for others who need that time to recharge.  Don’t hesitate to ask for the help.  You’ll be amazed at how many will say “yes.”  It’s a a win-win for all and you’ll be amazed at how many will say Yes!

Prioritize Invitations — Holiday parties can be ideal for networking, meeting new people, making new contacts, reuniting with old friends and business colleagues, but don’t overdue it as it can be exhausting.

Modify Shopping Habits — Track your shopping and receipts in one place and/or use some of your mobile apps that can automatically collect your online shopping receipts. Keeping electronic receipts could also save you time when tax time comes around.

Learn To Unplug — People are planning their holiday time off making it more challenging to take a real break from the office. If you are committed to taking time off before the new year take some deliberate steps with your email.  Craft a clever out of office message that specifies when you should be contacted.  Next suspend your social media alerts and e-newsletters and most important, think before you send email, especially the day before you leave for vacation.  Last, unsubscribe from email you opted to receive but don’t read.

Look for Shortcuts — Sites like GrubHub.com, which lets you order dinner in, Shop Savvy Barcode Scanner, helps you find the bargains, and TechSavvyMama.com, adds key devices to your home office that make a big difference and save you time and money.

Focus, plan and prioritize and you will find yourself enjoying this holiday season more than ever.
