Work/Life Balance
For Restaurateurs

Running a restaurant can be all consuming and take up all of your free time. With cutbacks and layoffs It is even more challenging to juggle the demands of your business and find time to enjoy your life.  If you are finding it difficult to have control over the hours you spend working it is time to focus your time and give your attention to things you can control.

Follow these simple ideas and you can bring more balance into your life.

Build Downtime Into Your Schedule — When planning your week schedule time with your family and friends and other activities that help you recharge.  If you take time for yourself you will be more productive and make better decisions.  You are your most important customer/dinner guest!

Give Up Activities That Sap Your Strength — Don’t waste time on activities or with people that add no value.  Take stock on what is not enhancing your business or personal life and minimize time spent in these areas.

Exercise — When your schedule is jam packed it’s hard to find time to exercise.  However, exercising will boost your energy level and concentration so it’s a must to make time to exercise at least twice or 3 times a week.  Early morning workouts are a great way to start your day.

Relax & Recharge — Don’t get overwhelmed thinking you need to make big changes to bring more balance to your work and your life.  Set realistic goals, for example try and leave the restaurant earlier at least one night per week.

Slowly add activities that are important to you.  Doing something as simple as taking 10 or 15 minutes to do something that relieves the stress and recharge your batteries.  It’s the little things in life that bring you the joy and will make a great difference when having to deal with growing your restaurant business.
